Brief History

Tomorrowland, one of the world’s most renowned electronic dance music festivals, has an illustrious history that dates back to its inception in 2005. Originally conceived by the Belgian entertainment company ID&T, the festival took place in the scenic town of Boom, Belgium. Over the years, Tomorrowland has evolved from a single-day event to a multi-weekend extravaganza, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees from all over the globe.

One of the festival’s key milestones came in 2011, when Tomorrowland expanded to a full weekend, significantly increasing its capacity and scope. This move marked the beginning of an era of rapid growth and international acclaim. I was lucky enough to have my first ever experience at Tomorrowland in 2011 which opened my eyes to the best festival in the world. In 2013, the festival celebrated its tenth anniversary with a second weekend, solidifying its status as a major player in the music festival circuit.

The success of Tomorrowland in Belgium spurred the creation of spin-off events, starting with TomorrowWorld in the United States. Launched in 2013 and hosted in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, TomorrowWorld brought the magical experience of Tomorrowland to a new audience. Although TomorrowWorld faced challenges and was eventually discontinued, it remains a significant chapter in the festival’s history.

In 2019, Tomorrowland further expanded its global footprint with the introduction of Tomorrowland Winter, held in the picturesque French Alps. This winter edition combines the festival’s signature immersive experiences with a unique alpine setting, offering attendees a distinct and memorable experience.

Throughout its history, Tomorrowland has been graced by numerous iconic performances that have left an indelible mark on electronic dance music culture. Legendary DJs such as Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, and David Guetta have become synonymous with the festival, delivering unforgettable sets that resonate with fans worldwide.

Beyond the music, Tomorrowland’s influence extends to its innovative stage designs, immersive experiences, and a sense of community that brings people together from diverse backgrounds. The festival’s impact on electronic dance music culture is profound, shaping trends and setting new standards for live music events. As Tomorrowland continues to evolve, its legacy as a global phenomenon and a beacon of electronic dance music culture remains unwavering.

The Different Accommodation Options Available

When attending Tomorrowland in Belgium, selecting the right accommodation is crucial for an enjoyable experience. The festival offers a range of accommodation options to suit various preferences and budgets, ensuring that every attendee can find the perfect place to rest after a day of musical festivities.

One of the most popular choices is DreamVille, Tomorrowland’s official camping site. DreamVille provides an immersive festival experience with several distinct zones. The Easy Tent zone offers pre-pitched tents, eliminating the hassle of setting up your own. For groups, the Friendship Garden provides a dedicated space where friends can camp together. Those seeking a more luxurious stay might opt for the Comfort (VIP) area, which includes upgraded amenities and exclusive access to certain festival parts.

I’m lucky to have attended Tomorrowland 9 times which spans back to 2011, and over the years Ive stayed in the many options available. My favourite has to be when I stayed within the Montague area. This area offers quality catering, a swimming pool to cool off, hot tubs, clean shower facilities which were open 24 hours a day, a separate bar area and even more. You can only go in this area if you have the Montagoe package. Although where ever you stay, you will have the best time, with getting a little older I preferred the luxuries on offer in-between the madness.

Beyond DreamVille, numerous hotels in the nearby towns of Boom and Antwerp cater to festival-goers. These range from high-end hotels offering premium services to more budget-friendly options. Booking early is advisable, as these accommodations can fill up quickly.

For those who prefer a homier touch, Airbnb offers a variety of options, from entire homes to private rooms. Staying in an Airbnb can provide a more personalised experience and often includes amenities such as kitchens and living areas, allowing for a more comfortable stay.

When choosing accommodation, consider factors like proximity to the festival grounds, budget, and personal preferences. Staying within DreamVille offers the convenience of being close to the action and staying amongst fellow festival-goers, enhancing the overall Tomorrowland experience. However, if you value privacy and comfort, a hotel or Airbnb might be a better fit.

In conclusion, Tomorrowland provides a wide array of accommodation options, catering to different tastes and financial considerations. Whether you opt for the vibrant DreamVille, a nearby hotel, or a cozy Airbnb, planning ahead ensures a memorable festival experience.

Traveling from Brussels Airport to your accommodation near Tomorrowland involves several convenient options. Understanding these choices can help ensure a smooth start to your festival experience. Shuttle services, public transport, car rentals, and taxis each offer distinct advantages in terms of travel time, cost, and ease of use.

Shuttle services are a popular choice for many festival-goers. These services are often organised by Tomorrowland itself, providing direct routes from the airport to the festival grounds or nearby accommodations. Booking in advance is recommended, as spots fill up quickly during the festival period. The cost varies but generally ranges from €20 to €30 per person. Travel time is approximately one hour, depending on traffic conditions.

Public transport is another viable option. The Belgian train network is efficient and user-friendly, with regular services running from Brussels Airport to Boom, the town nearest to Tomorrowland. A typical journey involves catching a train from the airport to Antwerp, then transferring to a local train to Boom. The combined travel time is around 90 minutes, and the cost is approximately €15. Buses are also available from Boom station to the festival site, often included in the festival’s transport ticket package.

For those who prefer more flexibility, car rentals are available at Brussels Airport. Major rental companies like Hertz, Avis, and Europcar offer a range of vehicles to suit different budgets and needs. Renting a car can offer convenience, especially if you plan to explore other parts of Belgium. The drive from the airport to Boom takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Be mindful of parking restrictions and fees near the festival area, as spaces are limited.

Taxis provide the most direct route to your accommodation. Taxis are readily available at the airport, and the journey to Boom typically costs between €80 and €100. The travel time is similar to that of a rental car, around 45 minutes. While more expensive, taxis offer the benefit of door-to-door service, which can be particularly useful if you have heavy luggage or if you are arriving late at night.
